6 Months in a Nut Shell

Ok, here it is... I am still in progress and the list will change up until the day we go shopping. I cross out and add based on what we have and if I think it will last the 6 months. I also have my Wal-Mart/Target list (which I forgot to scan) because somethings are cheaper there. The labels have helped everyone... including Mom and Dad and now Grandpa. I would have to say this is where my OCD comes out, just ask my husband and daughter. Every cabinet is labeled... oh, except the bathroom and boy does it show.

The menu thing... well not always does it get followed like it should, but that is my goal this school year. I think we run better when we have a plan and that may also be a little bit of the OCD. :) Dinners are all that are on the menu because of school, lunch is sandwiches or left overs and breakfast will be cereal, oatmeal, or eggs and toast. Not hard to figure out and now that I have made bites (quiches), it is one more thing to add to breakfast if we want.

We have our refrigerator freezer and one other freezer which is also some what organized when I first put things in there. I have a pac-n-seal thing and when I get home we repack in portions that we will use, this means, vegetables, meat, any thing in the freezer. How OCD is this... I put the food in according to the menu. December meat would be first to go in so August ends up on the top. LOL Now, in my list it may say 4 pork chops, but what this means is 4 packages, usually consisting of 8 to 10 chops, etc. I can not tell you enough how this saves us time and money, it's wonderful!!

I really fought Todd and having a schedule and plan because I am a fly by the seat of my pants kind of gal ( which has gotten me in to trouble to many times to count! ). But now I am the biggest supporter of it. Now, this summer, has been one of chaos... New people living with us, different schedules, and we needed a readjustment period... I am done though, it is back to having a routine!!

I am a lazy person by nature... whatever that means... but I also have that OCD side to me. I haven't figured out as of yet, but one day I will know why this is. :)

P.S. Did I mention my desire for wood hangers... I have 2 and they are my favorite things. I need to add that to my list of extra's and see what happens. ;)

Oh yeah... Our house/home (don't know what to call it yet... it is going to be a rental and we will eventually be in a different house at some point) but it has 3 pantries and I dont know if I would be able to do this if we didn't have these pantries. So Todd is aware of the fact that the next house has to have pantries... It is a must!! ;)

WOW. You are like a Frontier Woman!

I am impressed. That does take some real organizing talent, lots of determination, and yes, three pantries. I think your labeling of everything is a big part of what makes it all work so well for you guys. Bravo, Windy!

I bet as you go along you get better and better at it, right?

I say let's all go to Windy's for Party Pasta Bowl night or Tangy Grilled Chicken Pizza night! ha Yum, yum, you sure know how to make a delicious and varied menu.

Thank you so much for sharing your talents :)

Wendy, you amaze me with your organizational skills. Frankly it never occurred to me to shop for six months ahead, but now that you have introduced me to this idea I find myself contemplating it. Yes, it would take some pantries to do this. I have a few pantry shelves, but not enough for six months...but hey, maybe three. That is once I clean out all the junk that is there like jigsaw puzzles and old lp records. Thanks for sharing!
