A day of cleaning and getting organized...

Today we had planned to go to the New Art Gallery in town, but they were closed... only open Wed., Thurs., Fri., Sat.. So, we stayed home and got ready for next month. Cleaned the pantry, did all of the laundry, Hannah vacuumed and cleaned her room, the boys (newphew & friends) did dishes, cleaned my old stove so I could list on Craigslist, lets see what else did we do... Organized and filed, cleaned our room, mopped, oh yes, the boys cleaned the bathroom... when I start peeing outside of the toilet, oh never mind, they cleaned it. ;)

School starts next month for all of us and I am learning semester, by semester, just how organized I really have to be and that means staying on top of every thing. Not always an easy task and the last few months I have gotten off track quite a bit.

I decided I would get our pantry all straighted out for our 2nd shopping trip of the year. This always helps during school time... no more last minute trips for TP or laundry soap. :)

Thats right, 2nd for the year... One of the best things we have ever done... 2 major grocery shopping trips a year.

I plan, make sample menus and then make a list of what we need, etc. for 6 months and we go to Costco in Aug. and in Jan./Feb and stock up. I still go to the grocery store every week for little things like milk, eggs, cheese, bread, but it has reduced our monthly grocery bill quite a bit. I still budget out every month what I think we would spend on the stuff I have already bought, fabric softner, laundry soap, meats, T.P. etc. and then every 6 months I go to Costco and spend 2/3 or less of what we save up. WOW!! We even get a few fun Costco extras. :)

Writing it out makes me all tingly. lol Thank goodness Todd bougth his truck... It will make my shopping day so much easier... I drive a Ford Focus (small) and when I go to Costco to do this shopping I usually fill up 3 carts and sometimes 4. Can you picture it?! They always laugh because I have it down to a science on how to load my car. No wonder why I needed new shocks. ;)

The best thing about this... the less trips I make to the store, the less non-essentials we buy.

Ok, that is enough rambling, but I am excited to get back on track!

Infrequent shopping has been helpful for us too. My mom thought she shopped very rarely because she went every 2 weeks...I go about once a month...But twice a year, Wow! That is great!

We still have to go for the parishables... which sometimes I wish we didnt even have to do that. I guess we could plant some fruit trees, vegetables, get a cow and chickens.

The chickens are coming back next spring so we wont need eggs anymore. :)

My goodness, Windy, I never heard of such a thing. I thought going once every two weeks was infrequent shopping too. Hats off to you! How organized you have to be to do that.

I'm still stunned. And wondering if it is something I could implement for myself...

Any chance you could let us have a peek at your grocery list?

Don't you love bulk shopping? Stephen thinks I'm crazy because it makes me all giddy to go grocery shopping and get good deals on stuff.:)

I love it!! It is so surprising how well Todd and I mesh on this... he is good at finding great prices and feeding a lot of people for pennies. I love bulk shopping and you would think with only 3 of us, is that much cheeper for them? Well yesterday I had 9 children from 8:30 am until 9 pm. And that is not uncommon. We love our house to be full, most days anyways. ;)

I am going to post a grocery list for 6 months shopping, it is a sight!

What amazement and wonder. You must be terribly organized! Where do you put all this stuff after you get it home? Share some more.

Woah! I can't even imagine. David and I go to the grocery store a couple of times a week. We hate being there for long periods of time. It makes us grumpy
